Moments in Singapore

Concluding the first SEA trip is the one&only SINGAPORE. I must admit, I am surprised at my speedy posting of this trip (all in less than 2 weeks, is not baaad) & hopefully this is a trend I can keep up for the upcoming trips/posts (inner "GO ME" chant). Well Singapore was a blasty blast & a beautiful city at that. One major thing I noticed was the cleanliness. It is truly miraculous & it comes to no surprise when you see some of the laws regarding littering. With only 2 days to spend, there was a lot to be done. The hostel, Footprints Hostel, was ideally located in Little India which was superbly colorful & dynamic at night. Quick note on the hostel - facilities were ok, staff was so-so (not the most accommodating for our large group/felt like they had no clue what to do) but overall a decent choice considering the decent breakfast selection+the most AMAZING pillow offered. The first day Val (fellow travelling friend) & I were lucky enough to be taken around Singapore with a local student who had done an exchange at my university back home. She took us to this delicious rice&chicken restaurant that was to DIE for with an incredible array of smells, taste & bustling service everywhere. We tried some soya eggs, roasted&boiled chicken, simple green veggies & my ABSOLUTE fave was this "crunchy prawns" dish - drool worthy to zee max. Afterwards, we toured around the financial district, Raffles Place, Fullerton Hotel, Merlion Park to name a few. From a distance we snapped (and by we I mean Val since I was still camera-less) of the Marina Bay Sands, Singapore Flyer & the durian shaped theatre. That night a group of us headed to the Night Safari & saw nocturnal animals (including my fave hippopotamuses) & a variety of "shows". Cute really. The next day involved a trip to Chinatown, authentic hawker center (for some yummy dim sum, couldn't resist), met a local & discussed food/hawker centers through a mix of broken english & hand signalling & finally headed to Sentosa Island (man made island). This island is packed with tourists, resorts, hotels, beaches & a variety of activities for people of all ages. We chose the simple chill&drink&sleep&lax beach side at one of the bars. Finally that night we checked out the nightlife in Clarke's Quay & around. Tres fun.
